Derek Luttrell is more than your average guitar toting songwriter. Heʼs a master of brevity and storytelling. At 22 years old, Derek writes with narrative power of Johnny Cash and the well-crafted melodies of Randy Newman, all carried by an old voice and accompanied by his percussive guitar playing.

His songs are coated in empathy and rich with history, with characters ranging from a victim of Hurricane Katrina to a Southern runaway, from a man on death row to a Union soldier. He does have his share of love songs filled with the angst of youth, but unlike the flowery and flighty ballads of his contemporaries, thereʼs a believability born from the almighty cliché of the shy, small town boy trying to make a life in the big city.
