-LAGERS-
Lager comes from the German word “lagern”, meaning “to store.” Lagers ferment at the bottom of the tank, at cooler temperatures, and generally take longer to mature. Major styles include pilsner, bock, and dunkel (dark lager).
SESSION AND LAWNMOWER BEERS
American companies have created a style of beer that is light in calories and refreshing. We like to call them “lawnmower beers” because they’re ultra refreshing on a hot day, but low enough in alcohol that you can drink a few and still keep your lines straight.

-ALES-
Ale yeast ferments at the top of the tank, at warmer temperatures, and is more varied in flavor. Major ales styles include pale ale, IPA, porter, stout, and nut brown, just to name a few. Ales are referred to as being “fruity, rounded, and complex,”
ALES
WHEAT BEERS
Adding a proportion of wheat to the grain bill gives body and a cloudy character to the beer. Sometimes listed as weisse, weizen, or witbier, the varying styles are all refreshing, with a slight citrus aroma and flavor. Great with fish and lighter fare.

Pales and IPAs
Pale ales feature good balance between hops and malt - golden colored and very drinkable.
India Pale Ales (IPAs) are pale ales with extra hops added -- originally used to preserve the beer for the long trip from England to India, American brewers have revived the style to emphasize the bitterness and aroma. Great with spicy dishes and bar snacks.
